The Plutaluang Royal Navy Golf course is located approx. 45 mins South of Pattaya towards Sattahip and the new U-Tapao airport, the course was opened in 1969 and is a mature and extensive 36-hole complex located amongst rolling hills. It is well worth visiting even to just enjoy the scenery and indulge in the peace and quiet. It is built around a vast natural reservoir and all the courses feature interesting holes lined with mature trees.
The uniqueness of the design and construction of this course is that no professional golfer was involved in its creation. It is as natural as can be, scenic and challenging. It was dry when we played and the fairways were hard as concrete which provided some interesting bounces. The grass is evidently Zoysia grass which enables the greenkeepers to conserve water. The Club House is vast yet simple and the staff exceedingly friendly. Using our new Pattaya Sports Club Card our discounted rate was THB.750, Caddy THB.280 and a golf cart THB.600 (if you are looking to cut costs they do allow 2 people to share a cart!). We were pleased that we took carts as it is a long course to walk!
There are 4 x 9-hole courses conveniently called North, South, East and West. The design concept is superb as the various holes run close to each other but never interfere with each other. We played East and South which are located close to the large lake. There are several water hazards, many dog-legs and of course a lot of large trees strategically placed exactly when you want to hit the ball! Most holes are quite long and some are spectacular with amazing views from the undulating landscape.
Though an older style course and not one of the super groomed International style courses, Plutaluang is a great course to play and does not seem to get busy during the week. Many quirky sights about including a Lighthouse on the Island green, A Harrier Jet and their emblem is Popeye! Enjoy!
