Mountain Shadow Golf Course is located between Bangkok and Pattaya, approx. 40 minutes drive from Pattaya. It is a bit of a challenge to find as the completion of the motorway appears to have confused the GPS system with directions to leave the motorway where there is no exit! Try switching programs and this will lead you directly to their entrance.
The course opened in 1993 and was designed by Ronald Fream. It’s an attractive course that has been created from a former Mango Plantation. Many of the original Mango trees are still dotted around the course and you will find that a ball hit into a tree at least rewards you with a mango! Seriously try to avoid these trees as their foliage is thick! The course was formerly known as Natural Park Hill, evidently it was closed for many months and one can see that work is still in progress.
Mountain Shadow has it’s charm. Initial impressions as one arrives are that it is rather desolate and un-kept. There is a vast Club house that is virtually empty but it is the golf that we came for. Again, using our excellent Pattaya Sports Club Card our discounted rate was THB.750, Caddy costs THB.330 and a Cart THB.500 though it is a relatively easy course to walk.
We enjoyed Mountain Shadow, whilst again it is not at its best, the value for money ratio works well here. It’s a lovely and challenging course for a relaxed game of golf. The fairways are generally quite wide with some water hazards and a few bunkers. The greens are exciting(!) fast and undulating, they are extremely challenging!
Mountain Shadow is not necessarily a ‘go to’ course but if you are looking for a fun and relaxing game of golf, it is highly recommended.
